Government of Delhi Steps Up Outreach to Artisans — 24 State Handicraft Awards Announced!

The Industries Department, Government of NCT of Delhi, organised an interaction session with handicraft artisans from across Delhi at the Conference Hall of the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Northern Regional Office, R.K. Puram, New Delhi. Approximately 35 artisans participated in the session, which aimed to familiarise them with the application process, eligibility criteria, award categories and procedural requirements for participation in the Delhi State Handicraft Awards.

The session was chaired by Shri Benjo P. Jose, IAS, Joint Commissioner, Industries Department, Government of NCT of Delhi, in the presence of Shri Virendra Kumar, Regional Director (Handicrafts), Northern Region, along with the Deputy Commissioner and other departmental officials. The participants were guided on the application procedure and the importance of submitting complete applications supported by the requisite documents and craft samples.

It was highlighted that the State Awards provide a prestigious platform for recognising exceptional craftsmanship, encouraging innovation and acknowledging the contribution of artisans towards preserving and promoting traditional crafts. The scheme provides for 18 Rajya Dakshta Puraskars and 6 Rajya Shilpkar Puraskars, covering a range of craft disciplines and special categories, including women artisans, young artisans, Divyang artisans and endangered crafts.

Applications are being accepted until 31 October 2026 through the official portal, industries.delhi.gov.in. Artisans who require assistance with online submission may visit the Industries Department’s office at Patparganj during office hours for guidance and support. Applicants are required to submit their craft samples and supporting material, including photographs and other prescribed documents, in accordance with the scheme guidelines. Eligibility requirements, including the applicable experience criteria and documentation, must be fulfilled.

The session emphasised the importance of participation by eligible artisans and the need for coordinated support from the Industries Department and the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) to ensure the successful implementation of the award process. The awards offer artisans an important opportunity to gain recognition from the Government, enhance their professional standing and create new avenues for growth in the handicrafts sector. Artisans were therefore encouraged to come forward, apply within the stipulated deadline and motivate fellow craftspeople to participate in this prestigious initiative.
