Inauguration of Comprehensive Skill Upgradation Programme on Mirizim Craft Held at  Golaghat, Assam

Golaghat, Sept 23: The inauguration of a Comprehensive Skill Upgradation Programme on Mirizim Craft, an endangered traditional craft, was held at  Chahguri Chapori, Dergaon, in the Golaghat district of Assam. The programme, which aims to revive & preserve including promotion the endangered Mirizhim Craft. The Programme is sponsored by the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India, and organizing by the Assam Small Industries Development Corporation, Guwahati where 30 artisans were getting directly benefited from this Training Programme.

The event saw the presence of the Assistant Director, Handicrafts Service Centre (HSC), Jorhat, representing the office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), as the chief guest. Renowned Empanelled Designer Shri Pallab Mishra and Master Craftsperson Shri Bapukan Payeng also graced the occasion.

A total of 30 artisans, all with valid PEHCHAN ID Cards, were selected to undergo training, which will include two months of intensive craftwork training, two months of design development, and one month of soft skills enhancement. The training programme is expected to uplift the traditional artisans, equipping them with both technical and creative skills to enhance the craft’s reach and sustainability.

This initiative marks a significant step towards reviving the Mirizim Craft, ensuring its survival in the modern market while empowering the artisans with vital skills for the future.
