New Delhi: The Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, has organised Shilp Didi 2026, a dedicated handicrafts exhibition at Dilli Haat, INA Market, New Delhi, from 16 to 31 August 2026. The initiative aims to provide women artisans with a prominent marketing platform while promoting their economic empowerment and strengthening the market presence of India’s traditional handicrafts.
The event brings together 80 women artisans from across the country, who are showcasing their exclusive handcrafted products representing India’s remarkable cultural diversity, traditional knowledge and creative excellence.
More than a marketplace, Shilp Didi 2026 provides visitors an opportunity to discover the stories behind India’s crafts. Every handcrafted product reflects the artisan’s skill, imagination, indigenous knowledge and generations-old traditions. By bringing these products directly before consumers, the initiative creates greater visibility for artisans and helps establish a stronger connection between craftsmanship and the contemporary market.
For the participating Shilp Didis, the exhibition represents an important opportunity to showcase their creations on a prestigious platform and develop direct linkages with customers, bulk buyers, exporters and other potential markets. Such market exposure can contribute significantly to improving earnings, strengthening entrepreneurial capabilities and creating sustainable business opportunities.
The timing of the exhibition is also favourable, with the monsoon gradually receding and Delhi’s intense summer heat easing, potentially encouraging greater footfall from visitors and buyers.
The success of Shilp Didi 2026 could pave the way for a wider national network of similar initiatives. The Ministry of Textiles may consider organising such exhibitions at commercially viable locations across the country in fixed annual slots, gradually developing Shilp Didi into a recognisable national brand.
A structured and predictable exhibition calendar would enable artisans to plan production according to market demand while giving domestic and international buyers, exporters and bulk purchasers an opportunity to schedule their visits in advance.
Ultimately, empowering women artisans means strengthening families, communities and the wider handicrafts economy.
“If artisans smile, the nation shines.”
Let us collectively work towards the resurgence of India’s handicrafts sector.
Buy Indian Handicrafts. Promote Indian Artisans. Promote India.
