New Delhi: Proper maintenance of official records and cleanliness of government office premises are important aspects of an efficient, organised and healthy working environment. Government offices have a responsibility not only to maintain their records in accordance with prescribed rules but also to encourage a culture of cleanliness, discipline and collective responsibility.
Official files and documents are required to be properly arranged, preserved and kept in safe custody. At the same time, files and documents that have completed their prescribed retention period should be weeded out in accordance with the applicable Record Retention/Detention Schedule and extant rules. Proper record management helps offices remain organised while ensuring that important documents are preserved and handled systematically.
Alongside record management, cleanliness and hygiene in office premises are equally important. A clean and well-maintained workplace contributes to a healthy atmosphere and provides a more pleasant environment for officers, officials and visitors.
In this regard, the Regional Director (H), Northern Region, New Delhi, participated in a cleanliness drive under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan at HSC, New Delhi. Officers and officials of NRO and HSC, New Delhi, were also present and actively participated in the cleanliness initiative.
The participation of government officers and officials in cleanliness activities carries an important message for society. When public servants themselves take an active role in maintaining cleanliness, it can encourage others to adopt similar practices in their own workplaces, homes and public surroundings.
Government offices and their employees can play an important role in creating awareness and motivating people towards cleanliness and responsible civic behaviour. Individual efforts, when combined with collective participation, can help create a positive environment and encourage citizens to contribute towards the broader objectives of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
