New Delhi: The persistent accumulation of garbage in Sector-1, R.K. Puram, has raised serious concerns over civic sanitation, environmental hygiene and the quality of public services being provided to residents.
Overflowing waste containers, unattended garbage and poorly maintained roads are increasingly becoming a visible feature of the locality. What should be a clean and well-managed residential neighbourhood is instead facing conditions that can contribute to foul odour, unhygienic surroundings, pollution and potential public-health risks.
R.K. Puram is home to a large community, including government employees and their families. Residents contribute regularly towards government services through taxes, statutory charges and, in many cases, deductions associated with residential facilities. They are therefore entitled to expect basic civic amenities, particularly regular garbage collection, road cleaning, sanitation and maintenance.
The responsibility for different aspects of maintenance may involve agencies such as the NDMC and CPWD, depending on the location and nature of the service. Better coordination between the concerned authorities is therefore essential to prevent gaps in accountability.
Clean Delhi Must Be Above Politics
Delhi is not merely another city. As the national capital of India, it hosts Parliament, government institutions, diplomatic missions and visitors from across the world. The cleanliness and appearance of its residential areas are consequently linked not only to public health but also to the image and dignity of the capital.
Civic cleanliness should remain above political differences and partisan considerations. Citizens should not have to suffer because of administrative disputes, jurisdictional confusion or political disagreements.
The concerned authorities should conduct an immediate inspection of Sector-1, R.K. Puram, ensure the regular lifting of accumulated waste, clean the affected roads and establish a transparent monitoring mechanism for sanitation services.
A clean capital cannot be achieved through occasional drives alone. It requires daily accountability, continuous maintenance and responsive civic administration.
The people of Delhi deserve a cleaner, healthier and safer city—and R.K. Puram deserves no less.
