Rourkela: India and England played out a fiercely contested 0-0 draw at the Birsa Munda International Hockey Stadium in Rourkela, leaving the race for the top spot in Pool D finely balanced. In front of a passionate home crowd, both teams produced a high-intensity contest in which defensive organisation, midfield discipline and goalkeeping excellence took centre stage.
The result keeps India firmly in contention for a direct place in the quarter-finals, although the final standings could ultimately be decided by goal difference.
From the opening whistle, England attempted to control possession and exploit the width, while India responded with an energetic pressing game. Manpreet Singh and Hardik Singh played important roles in disrupting England’s attacking rhythm and launching quick transitions.
