Sharad Shilpotsav 2.0: Celebrating India’s Living Craft Heritage at Dilli Haat

A 15-day national festival brings artisans, producer companies, buyers and craft enthusiasts together to turn traditional skills into sustainable business opportunities

NEW DELHI: The Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, is set to organise ‘Sharad Shilpotsav 2.0’ at Dilli Haat, INA, New Delhi, from 1 to 15 September 2026.

The 15-day festival promises to be a vibrant celebration of India’s extraordinary handmade heritage, bringing together traditional artisans, Artisan-Led Producer Companies, buyers, exporters, corporate houses and craft enthusiasts under one roof. The event will remain open to visitors daily from 11 AM to 8 PM.

India’s Craft Diversity on One Platform

Sharad Shilpotsav 2.0 will showcase handicrafts representing the diverse regions, communities and cultural traditions of India. From traditional techniques passed down through generations to contemporary interpretations of heritage crafts, the festival will provide visitors an opportunity to experience the depth and diversity of India’s handmade traditions.

The specially designed stalls and installations at Dilli Haat will provide an attractive setting for artisans and producer companies to display and sell their products. Each handcrafted product carries a story—not merely of its design and utility, but also of the community, cultural heritage, traditional knowledge and painstaking skill of the artisan who created it.

For consumers, therefore, purchasing a handcrafted product is much more than acquiring an object. It is an opportunity to take home a fragment of a community’s history, cultural identity, sentiment and craftsmanship.

From Craft Exhibition to Business Opportunity

One of the important features of Sharad Shilpotsav 2.0 will be the participation of Artisan-Led Producer Companies. These organisations provide a structured platform through which cluster artisans can collectively participate in business and market activities.

The festival will enable participating artisans to interact directly with bulk buyers, exporters and corporate houses, opening possibilities for sustainable business linkages and larger market opportunities. Direct interaction with consumers will also help artisans understand changing preferences, emerging trends and market expectations.

Such interactions are particularly valuable for artisans because market feedback can help them improve product design, diversify their product range, strengthen presentation and develop products that retain their traditional identity while responding to contemporary demand.

Live Demonstrations: Where Craftsmanship Comes Alive
Another major attraction will be live demonstrations by artisans from different parts of the country. Visitors will have the opportunity to watch traditional craft techniques being practised before them and interact directly with the craftspeople.

These demonstrations will provide a rare insight into the patience, precision, creativity and technical knowledge involved in producing handmade articles.

For younger visitors in particular, the demonstrations can become a window into India’s traditional knowledge systems and may help generate greater awareness about the career, entrepreneurship and livelihood possibilities within the handicrafts sector.

Producer Companies: Building Artisan Entrepreneurs

The participation of Artisan-Led Producer Companies also reflects a broader approach of the Ministry of Textiles towards transforming traditional craft activity into sustainable business enterprises.

These Producer Companies have been established with cluster artisans as shareholders, creating a collective business structure in which artisans can participate not only as producers but also as stakeholders in the enterprise.

Through various financial and developmental interventions, the Government seeks to strengthen these organisations, improve the overall economic position of artisans and create pathways for their gradual transformation into craft entrepreneurs.

This approach can help bridge the gap between traditional craftsmanship and modern business requirements by strengthening areas such as production, product development, branding, market access and commercial linkages.

When a Product Carries a Story

The true strength of Indian handicrafts lies in their ability to connect people, places and traditions.

A hand-crafted product often carries the identity of a particular region, community or cultural tradition. Behind its colours, motifs, materials and techniques are generations of knowledge and human effort.

Sharad Shilpotsav 2.0 provides an opportunity for consumers to understand this deeper meaning of handmade products. The customer is not simply purchasing a craft item—the purchase supports an artisan family, sustains a traditional skill and contributes to keeping a cultural practice alive.

A Celebration with a Larger Purpose

Beyond being a festival and marketplace, Sharad Shilpotsav 2.0 represents an important opportunity to strengthen the connection between craftsmanship and commerce.
By bringing artisans closer to buyers, exporters, corporate houses and consumers, the event can help create new business possibilities while giving greater visibility to India’s traditional handicrafts.

As the festival opens its doors at Dilli Haat, it will offer visitors not just an opportunity to shop, but an opportunity to meet the makers, witness the making and understand the stories behind the handmade.

In doing so, Sharad Shilpotsav 2.0 celebrates not only India’s crafts but also the people, communities and generations of knowledge that keep those crafts alive.
