Siddaramaiah rules out stepping down as CM, will serve for another five years.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has denied rumors of a leadership change in the state. In an interview with India Today TV, he stated that he intends to serve his full five-year term and lead the Congress in the 2028 elections. He emphasized that there is no truth to reports suggesting the Congress high command has asked him to resign or transfer power to Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar.

Siddaramaiah acknowledged that Shivakumar is interested in higher leadership positions but denied any plans to change the leadership. He mentioned that Shivakumar is also an aspirant, and there is nothing wrong with that, citing his deputy’s comment that “the seat is not vacant.” Additionally, the CM dismissed rumors about internal timelines for leadership rotation, clarifying that no such decisions have been made.

The Chief Minister reassured that the state’s finances are stable and there is no lack of funds, questioning how government promises could be fulfilled if it were bankrupt. Siddaramaiah also dismissed accusations of corruption from contractors’ groups, attributing them to political motives by the BJP. Additionally, he claimed that central agencies such as the Enforcement Directorate are unfairly focusing on Congress leaders in Karnataka.

Siddaramaiah also referred to the recent crowd tragedy that occurred in front of Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy Stadium on June 4. Siddaramaiah said he had given permission for the event to go ahead near Vidhana Soudha following a request from Royal Challengers Bengaluru and the Karnataka State Cricket Association. Asked if he regretted the incident, Siddaramaiah accepted the government’s responsibility. “Yes, 11 people died. There was a mistake by the Congress government but no failure of the government,” Siddaramaiah said.
