Top Indian batters with highest Test runs since 2021.

Rohit Sharma, a former Indian Test captain, has retired from red-ball cricket. Starting in the middle order, he became an opener in 2019. He exits with the record for the most runs in the ICC World Test Championship. Below is a list of Indian batters with over 1,800 Test runs since 2021.

Shubman Gill debuted in Tests in the 2020 Boxing Day match against Australia in Melbourne. In 31 Tests since 2021, he amassed 1,813 runs at 34.20, with five centuries and seven half-centuries. Transitioning from an opener to India’s number three in Tests, his overall Test performance has been modest.

Despite struggling in Tests recently, Virat Kohli ranks third on this list with 1,912 runs from 36 matches since 2021, averaging 31.86, below his usual standards. He has scored three centuries and eight half-centuries but has faced difficulties with deliveries outside the off-stump.

Rishabh Pant stands out as the premier wicketkeeper-batter in Test cricket. His aggressive lower-order batting has been instrumental in India’s significant victories. He has accumulated 2,105 runs in 29 Tests since early 2021, boasting an average of 43.85 with four centuries and 13 half-centuries, including two tons in England and South Africa.

Rohit leads the list due to his phenomenal Test performance, amassing 2,160 runs at an average of 36 from 35 Tests, comprising six centuries and eight half-centuries. Notably, between February 2021 and July 2023, Rohit scored above single digits in 30 consecutive Test innings, setting a record for the longest streak by a batter.
