Rupahihat, 3 January, 2025: With participating artisans in attendance, a Design and Technology Development Workshop was inaugurated today in Bishnu Nagar with the goal of creating new embroidery crochet design prototypes under the direction of designer and mastercraftsperson in line with current market trends in order to create a business in near future.
The Workshop organized by M/s Sonaiporiya Handicraft Producer Company Ltd., Nagaon, Assam under the sponsorship of Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India.
Prominent dignitaries, including Sofiqul Islam, Principal of UJVSSS, Hemanta Bora, Development Officer, DICC Nagaon, Suhashini Gohain, Empanelled Designer, NER (Handicrafts), Puja Kumari Das, Master-Craftsperson, and media representatives, were in attendance at the inauguration celebration.
The goal of the program is to equip craftspeople with cutting-edge methods and creative designs for embroidery crochet, helping to preserve and promote this age-old trade.
The significance of skill development and product diversification in the handicrafts industry was emphasized by the guests and artisans who offered their perspectives throughout the event.
The workshop will conclude on January 31, 2025, with the display of the developed prototypes. To ensure the sustainable development of artisans and the continued growth and recognition of traditional handicrafts, the Ministry of Textiles consistently supports artisans through a variety of programs that involve implementing partners such as M/s Sonaiporiya Handicraft Producer Company Ltd., Nagaon, Assam.
