Guwahati, July 31, 2026: Reinforcing its commitment to sporting excellence and well-rounded education, Modern English School, Kahilipara, has once again earned the distinction of hosting the CBSE Cluster-I Badminton Championship 2026 for the second consecutive year. The prestigious three-day championship, being held from July 31 to August 2, 2026, has brought together over 450 student-athletes, 200+ coaches and officials, and participants from 85+ CBSE schools across Northeast India.

Teams from Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura are competing in the tournament, which serves as a vibrant platform for young shuttlers to showcase their talent, demonstrate sportsmanship, and compete at the highest level of school badminton. The championship is being conducted in strict accordance with the latest rules and regulations of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and the Badminton Association of India (BAI), ensuring a fair, transparent, and professionally managed competition.

The championship was formally inaugurated today in a vibrant opening ceremony celebrating the spirit of sportsmanship, discipline, and unity. The programme commenced with an opening address, followed by a melodious chorus presented by the students of Classes X and XI. Mrs. Jonali Das, Principal of Modern English School, delivered the welcome address and formally welcomed the distinguished guests, participating teams, and officials.

The ceremony was graced by Mr. Naresh Prasad Singh, Under Secretary, CBSE, as the Chief Guest, along with Mr. Shashanka Pratim, Director, Holy Home Secondary School, Guwahati; Dr. Pallavi Dutta, Principal, Holy Home Secondary School, Guwahati; Mr. Satirtha Saha, Director, St. Vivekananda English Academy, Guwahati; and Mrs. Mitra Som Saha, Principal, St. Vivekananda English Academy, Guwahati, as Guests of Honour.

Mr. Naresh Prasad Singh was felicitated at the beginning of the event. Addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest inspired the young athletes to uphold the values of fair play, perseverance, and excellence. Mr. Pankaj Das, Director of Modern English School, also addressed the audience, highlighting the transformative role of sports in education. The programme further included the felicitation of referees, the oath-taking ceremony by participants and officials, soulful solo and group performances by MES students, and concluded with the Chief Guest officially declaring the championship open.

The championship features competitions in the Under-14, Under-17, and Under-19 categories for both boys and girls, offering talented young shuttlers an opportunity to compete at a high level while fostering friendship and camaraderie beyond state boundaries.
