Modern English School, Kahilipara, Guwahati, is set to organise the 4th All Assam Inter-School Taekwondo Championship 2026 on 10 and 11 October 2026. The two-day championship aims to promote interest in martial arts, self-defence techniques and physical fitness among school students across Assam.
The championship, organised under the supervision of the Modern School of Languages, Sports and Performing Arts, will be held on the school campus and is expected to witness participation from more than 300 young athletes from different schools across the State. The competition will be open to boys and girls in the age group of 5 to 17 years.
The championship will feature two major disciplines—Kyorugi (Sparring) and Poomsae (Pattern)—with participants divided into four age categories: Under-8 (5–7 years), Sub-Junior (8–11 years), Cadet (12–14 years), and Junior (15–17 years). Winners in the respective categories will be awarded Gold, Silver and Bronze medals, along with certificates of participation and achievement.
Speaking about the significance of the championship, Ms. Jonali Das, Principal of Modern English School, highlighted that Taekwondo, with its long martial arts tradition, contributes significantly to the physical, mental and overall development of students. The discipline requires regular practice, concentration and dedication, helping young learners develop coordination, self-control, balance, confidence and mental strength.
She further expressed satisfaction over the enthusiastic participation of students and emphasised the importance of learning self-defence, particularly among school-going girls. According to her, regular training in Taekwondo not only develops physical fitness but also equips students with greater confidence and awareness to respond appropriately in challenging or uncomfortable situations.
Modern English School has consistently regarded sports and physical activities as an integral part of education, recognising their important role in developing teamwork, discipline, leadership qualities and a healthy sporting spirit among students. The upcoming championship is expected to provide young Taekwondo practitioners with a valuable platform to demonstrate their skills, learn from one another and further develop their confidence and competitive spirit.
