Automakers are adapting to Trump's import tariffs.

The 25% tariff imposed by the Trump administration on imported vehicles has led to strong reactions from global automakers. Audi and Jaguar Land Rover have ceased vehicle imports to the US. Analysts predict higher prices, prompting some consumers to buy sooner to avoid potential increases.

Audi is pausing US imports from Mexico and overseas, currently holding cars at ports post-April 2 for tariff impact evaluation. With around 37,000 cars in US stockpile, enough for two months’ sales, Audi aims to raise prices on port-held vehicles for covering extra fees from Trump administration before distributing them to dealers.

Volkswagen, a major auto company, stopped US imports as reported by Zeit Online. Existing US cars face extra destination charges. BMW absorbs import fees for Mexico models until May 1. Stellantis paused Canadian plant production for two weeks due to tariffs, resulting in 900 layoffs last week.

Ferrari responded to new tariffs by raising prices on high-end models like the Purosangue SUV and 12Cilindri grand tourer. General Motors is boosting full-size truck production in Fort Wayne to counter tariffs on trucks from Canada and Mexico. Ford is providing employee pricing until June 2 for most 2024-2025 models, except for certain US-built ones.

Hyundai and Genesis will not increase prices due to tariffs for at least two months. However, they will discontinue providing two-year complimentary maintenance on new models. Kia and Honda have not decided on potential price adjustments. Kia, in particular, has not made an official statement as many of its popular models are manufactured in the US.
