Natural Dyeing Craft Workshop Inaugurated in Ri-Bohi, Meghalaya

After being approved by the Ministry of Textiles’ Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicraft), the Government of India’s Sarikushi, Nongpho, Dist. successfully hosted a one-month Design and Technology Development Workshop on Natural Dyeing craft. Assam’s Pratikshya NGO in Nagaon is in charge of the initiative. In addition to promoting and preserving the traditional art of natural dyeing and developing the skills of artisans, the workshop seeks to develop innovative designs in response to market demand, improve the quality and marketability of naturally dyed products, and advance sustainable and environmentally friendly practices in the textile industry.

The program’s designer, Shrishti Purwar, an empanelled designer with the Ministry of Textiles, has been appointed, and Rupali has been hired as the master craftsperson. The workshop will help thirty local craftsmen by giving them the opportunity to learn new skills, create new goods, and establish connections with both domestic and foreign markets. This initiative has been approved by the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India’s Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicraft) as a means of advancing and growing the handicraft industry. With its proficiency in craft development, Pratikshya NGO will guarantee the workshop’s flawless execution.

Through this effort, the textile industry will be encouraged to adopt sustainable methods, empower its artisans, and preserve traditional crafts. The workshop is an important step in showcasing Meghalaya’s exquisite craftsmanship and rich cultural legacy.
