What began as an investigation into an alleged street-harassment incident reportedly evolved into an unexpected breakthrough in an old murder case, after Bihar Police traced the family connection of the young suspect.
The episode started when a woman allegedly reported being groped and verbally abused in a busy market area. Police reportedly responded swiftly, identifying the accused with the help of local intelligence and CCTV footage. During routine questioning and verification, however, investigators noticed discrepancies concerning the suspect’s family background, particularly details about his father.
That seemingly minor inconsistency reportedly opened a much larger investigative trail. Police are said to have used the Inter-operable Criminal Justice System (ICJS), digitised records and other identification data to investigate the father’s identity. The checks allegedly revealed a match with a man wanted in connection with a murder case dating back nearly 18 years.
According to the supplied account, the father had allegedly disappeared after a fatal dispute over land and subsequently lived under a modified identity. Investigators reportedly combined historical records, photographs, fingerprints and information from different police jurisdictions to trace him.
The episode illustrates how modern policing is increasingly dependent on the combination of human intelligence and digital investigation. A complaint involving one alleged offence unexpectedly became the doorway to a long-pending case.
Beyond the immediate arrests, the incident highlights the importance of maintaining searchable criminal databases, sharing information across jurisdictions and examining relevant background details during investigations.
