Kullu, Himachal Pradesh: In a unique blend of patriotism, creativity and promotion of India’s rich handicraft traditions, the Handicrafts Service Centre (HSC), Kullu, under the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), has undertaken an innovative initiative as part of the Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign.
Going beyond the conventional observance of the campaign, the initiative has sought to place the skills and craftsmanship of local artisans at the centre of the celebration. As part of the programme, hand-knitted National Flag badges prepared by wool knitters from Lug Valley, Kullu, were distributed, providing a distinctive platform to showcase the talent and creativity of the region’s artisan community.
The initiative represents a meaningful convergence of national pride and India’s traditional craftsmanship. By using locally crafted products in connection with a national campaign, the effort gives visibility and recognition to artisans while encouraging them to continue their traditional crafts as a source of sustainable livelihood.
The hand-knitted badges also demonstrate how traditional skills can be adapted creatively to contemporary occasions. Such efforts can help generate greater appreciation for handmade products and highlight the cultural identity associated with the crafts of Himachal Pradesh.

Rather than limiting the Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign to symbolic participation, HSC Kullu has used the occasion to recognise the contribution of artisans and bring their craftsmanship into the public sphere.
