The 56th Foundation Day celebrations of the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad), Maharashtra, stood as a remarkable tribute to India’s vibrant textile legacy and the enduring spirit of its artisans, weavers, and textile entrepreneurs. The event was graced by the Hon’ble Union Minister of Textiles, Government of India, Shri Giriraj Singh, whose presence reaffirmed the Government’s unwavering commitment to strengthening India’s textile value chain and promoting the country’s rich handicrafts heritage.
Upon his arrival at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Airport, the Hon’ble Minister was warmly received by senior officials. His visit reflected the Ministry’s continued emphasis on fostering innovation, sustainability, and inclusive growth across the textile and handicrafts sectors.
One of the major highlights of the celebrations was the Handicrafts Exhibition organized by the Handicrafts Service Centre (HSC), Aurangabad, under the leadership of Shri Deeptansu Haldar, Regional Director (Handicrafts). The exhibition presented an exquisite collection of Maharashtra’s celebrated handicrafts, showcasing the extraordinary skills and creativity of its artisan communities.
Visitors were captivated by the elegance of Paithani Sarees from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, the timeless craftsmanship of Bidri Art, the traditional Tuljapur Kaudi Mala Craft, the intricate Wood Carvings of Nanded District, the innovative Cotton Wall Hanging Craft of Solapur, the fine Zari and Zari Goods from Parbhani and Jalna districts, and the vibrant Banjara Embroidery Craft from Beed District. Each exhibit reflected generations of inherited knowledge, artistic excellence, and cultural identity, demonstrating how traditional craftsmanship continues to flourish while adapting to contemporary market aspirations.
The exhibition emerged as one of the most admired attractions of the Foundation Day celebrations. Dignitaries, industry leaders, buyers, and visitors appreciated the exceptional quality, originality, and diversity of the handcrafted products. The participating artisans enthusiastically demonstrated their techniques and interacted with visitors, sharing the stories behind their crafts. They expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the Ministry of Textiles for providing a prestigious platform to showcase their products, expand market visibility, and connect with prospective buyers and stakeholders.
A particularly memorable moment of the event was the presentation of a handcrafted portrait of the Hon’ble Union Minister Shri Giriraj Singh, meticulously created using the traditional Cotton Wall Hanging Craft of Solapur. The portrait, presented by the artisans in the presence of senior officers and distinguished guests, symbolized the creativity, dedication, and artistic brilliance of India’s handicraft community. Deeply appreciating the gesture, the Hon’ble Minister commended the artisans for their outstanding craftsmanship and encouraged them to continue preserving and promoting India’s invaluable cultural heritage for future generations.
In the evening, the Hon’ble Minister chaired an interactive meeting with artisans, weavers, entrepreneurs, industry representatives, exporters, and other stakeholders. The session provided an important platform for open dialogue, enabling participants to share their experiences, challenges, and suggestions for strengthening the textile and handicrafts sectors. The discussions covered a wide range of issues, including market access, product diversification, branding, technology adoption, skill development, infrastructure, and export promotion.
Reaffirming the Government’s commitment to the welfare of artisans and weavers, the Hon’ble Minister assured the stakeholders that their valuable suggestions would receive due consideration in accordance with the policies and guidelines of the Ministry of Textiles. He directed senior officials to carefully document the issues raised, examine practical solutions, and initiate appropriate follow-up measures to ensure effective implementation. Emphasizing the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’, he reiterated that the sustainable development of the textile and handicrafts sectors depends on empowering artisans and weavers through improved market linkages, innovation, value addition, entrepreneurship, and enhanced livelihood opportunities.
