The 1st hydrogen-powered truck in India has been deployed by Adani Group in Chhattisgarh.

The Adani Group introduced India’s first hydrogen-powered truck for mining in Chhattisgarh, carrying 40,000kg over 200km. This move aligns with their focus on eco-friendly transport. The vehicle was unveiled in Raipur by Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, a significant step towards sustainable mining.

Adani Enterprises, part of the Adani Group, intends to swap diesel trucks in its logistics with hydrogen-powered ones. These trucks, created with local and global energy tech firms and an auto manufacturer, feature smart tech and three hydrogen tanks for effective cargo transport.

The new hydrogen-powered truck will transport coal from Gare Pelma III Block to a Chhattisgarh power plant. Adani Enterprises was chosen by the state-owned power company for mining operations at the block through competitive bidding. The partnership strives to provide low-cost electricity and pioneer sustainable mining practices.

The hydrogen-powered truck project is a partnership between Adani Natural Resources (ANR) and Adani New Industries Limited (ANIL), both affiliates of Adani Enterprises. ANR will acquire hydrogen cells from ANIL, known for its involvement in green energy, including wind turbines, solar modules, and batteries. This collaboration underscores the group’s dedication to decarbonization and sustainable mining practices.
