Five terrorists linked to Pakistan-based groups Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba were killed in Phase 1 of Operation Sindoor, targeting terrorist camps in Pakistan and POK on May 7. The deceased are identified as Mudassar Khadian Khas, Hafiz Muhammed Jameel, Mohammad Yusuf Azhar, Khalid alias Abu Akasha, and Mohammad Hassan Khan.
Photographs online show senior Pakistani military officials at terrorists’ funerals, revealing the long-standing army ties to terror groups. Lashkar-e-Taiba member Khas, aka Abu Jundal, led Markaz Taiba camp in Muridke, Pakistan, 25km from the Indo-Pak border. This camp has been linked to major attacks, like the 2008 Mumbai bombings.
The headquarters of Lashkar-e-Taiba, Markaz Taiba, trained Ajmal Kasab, the sole terrorist captured in the 2008 Mumbai attacks, while David Headley, another attacker in 26/11, also trained there. Hafiz Abdul Rauf, a designated global terrorist, led Khas’s funeral at a Pakistani government school.
Khas received a guard of honor from the Pakistan Army at his funeral, and senior military officials laid a wreath on behalf of Pakistan Army chief General Asim Munir. An active Pakistan Army officer, holding the ranks of Lieutenant General and Inspector General of Punjab Province’s police, also attended Khas’s prayer ceremony.
