Amid tensions with India, Pakistan acquires PL-15 missiles from China.

Pakistan reportedly received advanced PL-15 long-range air-to-air missiles from China amid increased tensions with India due to the recent Pahalgam terror attack. This led to retaliatory actions from India like suspending the Indus Waters Treaty and revoking visas for Pakistanis, prompting Pakistan to halt trade as well.

Pakistan’s Defense Minister and other officials warned India, signaling potential for all-out war due to India’s actions. They emphasized Pakistan’s formidable military capabilities and nuclear arsenal directed towards India in response to any attack. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also threatened India regarding the flow of Indus water, linking it to potential conflict.

The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) unveiled images of JF-17 Block III jets with China’s PL-15 Beyond Visual Range (BVR) Air-to-air missiles, a long-range active radar-guided missile by Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC). These missiles boast an operational range of 200-300km, speeds up to Mach 5, and feature AESA radar with a two-way data link for precise targeting.

PL-15 missiles, seen as a threat to Western rivals like the US AIM-120D AMRAAM and European MBDA Meteor, have been integrated into China’s Chengdu J-20, J-10C, and Shenyang J-16 jets. The PAF received these missiles directly from China’s PLA Air Force, not the export PL-15E model, according to Eurasian Times.

China reportedly delivered PL-15 long-range air-to-air missiles to Pakistan for its JF-17 fighter jets. A post on X, removed now, displayed a Pakistani JF-17 armed with the PL-15, lauding China as a reliable ally. The PL-15, crafted by China’s China Airborne Missile Academy in Luoyang, is an active radar-guided missile.
