Congress imposes gag order following leaders' controversial remarks about Pahalgam attack.

The Congress leadership has directed its members not to make public statements contradicting the party’s stance on the recent Pahalgam terror attack. This directive follows controversial remarks from Congress leaders post the attack, which claimed 26 lives in J&K. Sources indicate that Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi were displeased with spontaneous comments causing confusion about the party’s position on the incident.

Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah expressed his preference for peace over war with Pakistan, urging for security and effective safety measures by the central government. His comments were noticed by Pakistani media, who called them voices against war from India. In response, BJP’s R Ashoka criticized Siddaramaiah, dubbing him “Pakistan Ratna” and an internal reprimand was also issued to those who disagreed with the party’s stance.

Siddaramaiah hinted at the possibility of war as a last resort and criticized the Centre for the Pahalgam attack due to intelligence failures and inadequate security measures. He emphasized the urgent need to address the grave lapses in the country’s intelligence and security systems.

After Siddaramaiah, another Congress leader faced backlash for disputing the government’s claim that the Pahalgam attack targeted individuals based on religion. Congress MLA Vijay Wadettiwar criticized the government’s narrative, questioning if terrorists would take time to ascertain victims’ religion before attacking. Wadettiwar urged the government to own up to the responsibility for the Pahalgam incident.
