Northern lights will enhance the 'Micromoon' viewing tonight. Learn how to watch.

Skywatchers will see the full Pink ‘Micromoon’ tonight along with the northern lights. The Moon rises at 8:22pm EDT. A Micromoon is smaller and dimmer, occurring when the Moon is farthest from Earth, unlike the upcoming Supermoon, which will be larger and brighter.

The April full Moon, known as the Pink Moon, isn’t pink in color but named for the blossoming pink flowers in April. It will be the smallest and faintest full Moon in 2025.

In April, the full Moon will align with a potential geomagnetic storm (G1) due to a coronal mass ejection (CME) nearing Earth. NOAA forecasts the CME’s impact on our magnetic field this weekend, possibly triggering auroras visible in parts of the northern US like northern Michigan and Maine.

The SWPC suggested increased chances to witness the aurora soon due to potential solar flares from sunspot AR4055. This solar activity might create more CMEs, providing skywatchers with extra chances to view the northern lights during the upcoming full Pink Micromoon event.
