Rinshul Chandra, COO of Zomato’s food delivery, officially resigned citing new opportunities and passions. His departure, effective as of yesterday, aimed to explore paths aligning with evolving personal and professional goals, as conveyed in his resignation letter to Zomato’s founder and CEO, Deepinder Goyal.
Chandra resigned as Zomato laid off about 600 recently hired customer support representatives due to an uptick in AI utilization. The job cuts affected employees from Zomato’s Gurugram and Hyderabad offices who were part of the Zomato Associate Accelerator Program introduced the previous year.
Zomato initially hired 1,500 under the ZAAP program for support roles, promising career advancement. However, many contracts were not renewed by the end. This followed the launch of Nugget, an AI customer support system, to enhance efficiency.
