'Had jail food for 7 days in Assam': Union Home Minister Amit Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah shared his detention experience protesting Indira Gandhi’s rule in Assam while inaugurating the Lachit Barphukan Police Academy in Dergaon. During his speech, he mentioned being jailed and beaten by the Congress government in Assam, enduring seven days of jail food.

Shah criticized the Congress party for creating unrest in Assam, highlighting that it hindered peace. He emphasized their past governance faults. He also mentioned 10,000+ youths surrendering weapons in the last decade, aiding in restoring peace in the state.

During his visit, Shah expressed hope for Lachit Barphukan Police Academy to become India’s top police training institute in five years. He praised Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma for naming it after the heroic warrior Lachit Barphukan. Shah mentioned that Barphukan’s biography is now taught in 23 languages, motivating students nationwide.

Shah highlighted Assam’s rising conviction rate from 5% to 25% in three years, set to surpass the national average soon. He announced ₹3 lakh crore in infrastructure projects by PM Modi’s government in Assam. Following a business summit, talks of a proposed ₹5 lakh crore investment signal significant economic growth plans for the state.
