The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) won the Digital Transformation Award 2025 from London’s Central Banking for its innovative digital initiatives, Pravaah and Sarthi, which have improved processes and reduced paper submissions. Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised RBI for its dedication to innovation and efficiency.
Launched in January 2023, Sarthi is a digital initiative by the RBI to revamp internal workflows. The system, named after ‘charioteer’ in Hindi, facilitates secure document storage and sharing. It enhances record management, data analysis, and overall operational efficiency at the central bank.
Following Sarthi’s success, RBI introduced the Pravaah system in May 2024, meaning ‘smooth flow’ in Hindi. This platform enables external users to digitally file regulatory applications, seamlessly integrating with the Sarthi database for processing in RBI’s offices. The shift to a fully-digital infrastructure has significantly improved transparency and efficiency at the central bank, a key milestone in its digital transformation journey.
RBI credited its in-house team for initiating and carrying out digital projects. The bank mentioned that they received recognition for their initiatives like Pravaah and Sarthi systems, developed by the in-house team. This emphasizes the importance of internal expertise in driving digital transformation at a leading central bank globally.
