Delhi court approves FIR against Kejriwal for misusing public funds.

A petition at Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court led to an FIR against AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal, with allegations of misusing public funds in 2019 along with former AAP MLA Gulab Singh and Dwarka Councillor Nitika Sharma. The complaint states that they put up large hoardings in Dwarka using taxpayers’ money.

In September 2022, a magistrate dismissed the complaint against Kejriwal, but a sessions court overturned this ruling, instructing the magistrate to reassess the case. In January, following a directive from Special Judge Vishal Gogne, the magistrate court considered a plea to file an FIR.

Under Section 156(3) of the CrPC, a new petition empowers the magistrate to direct the police to file an FIR and investigate a cognizable offense. The court has instructed the police to submit a compliance report by March 18, posing another legal hurdle for Kejriwal, who is on bail in a case linked to the Delhi liquor policy scam.
