A BJP supporter accused a TMC village chief and his aide of raping her at a TMC office in West Midnapore district. Both accused have counter-complained. According to the woman, she visited the TMC panchayat on Sunday to declare quitting the BJP when she was allegedly raped by Lakshmi Sheet and his aide.
Police are investigating a complaint from the woman and a counter-complaint by Sheet. TMC president Sujay Hazra stated that their party condemns disrespect toward women. Hazra mentioned that if evidence supports the woman’s claims, TMC will take strict action against Sheet following legal procedures.
Sheet denied the allegation, attributing it to political motives and claiming he was framed by the BJP. In response, BJP MLA Agnimitra Paul criticized TMC offices as “rape centers,” planning a protest at the West Midnapore District Magistrate’s office post local exams.
