Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri announced that the BJP will appoint a new national president by mid-March, following the state units’ elections. He assured that the selection process is underway, and the party’s new leader will be chosen soon.
The national president election was initially scheduled for January but got delayed due to Delhi Assembly and state unit elections. The BJP’s rules require 50% of state units to elect presidents first before the national president is chosen. State-level election procedures are now being fast-tracked.
As the current national president of BJP, JP Nadda initially served as acting president from June 17, 2019, before formally becoming the 11th National President on January 20, 2020. Under his leadership, BJP won elections in 16 out of 35 states and secured victory in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, ensuring a third consecutive term in power.
