Vinod Sehwag, brother of ex-Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag, was recently arrested in a cheque bounce case dating back two years. His bail plea was dismissed by a local court due to concerns about past disobedience to court orders and potential re-offending. The Chandigarh Police detained him last week for failing to appear in court.
Vinod and two other directors of M/s Xalta Food Beverages Pvt. Ltd. were charged at Manimajra police station in 2023 under Section 174-A of the Indian Penal Code for failing to appear after a proclamation under Section 82 of the CrPC. The case, initiated by Krishan Mohan Khanna of Shree Naina Plastics Inc., was based on dishonored cheques issued by Vinod and his associates.
Vinod denied involvement in the case in his bail plea to the sessions court, asserting he had no role in the company. He criticized the hasty actions of the police in apprehending him and challenged the summons order in court. Vinod explained his absence in court was due to seeking legal assistance, with the next bail hearing set for March 10.
