The AAP office in Bhopal was locked by the landlord due to three months of alleged rent non-payment. Ramakant Patel, the party’s joint secretary in Madhya Pradesh, attributed the incident to working with honesty. He explained that the party lacked funds at the moment, preventing them from settling the rent.
Patel admitted the party depends on local funds and their workers face financial struggles. He also confessed he lacks information on unpaid rent details. The incident sparked reactions from political opponents, with state BJP spokesperson Narendra Saluja hinting at AAP and Congress offices being targeted next.
The office closure follows recent electoral defeats for the AAP, notably in the 2023 Madhya Pradesh assembly elections where the party didn’t secure any of the 66 seats it contested, receiving only 0.53% of the total votes compared to 0.98% for the NOTA option.
Despite a remarkable win in the 2022 civic polls in Singrauli, the AAP faced challenges; the joy turned short-lived following their ousting from power in Delhi by the BJP, who clinched 48 out of 70 seats in the recent assembly election. This defeat was particularly devastating for top AAP leaders, including convenor Arvind Kejriwal, and other senior leaders who lost their seats.
