Ford recalls Mustang again due to issues with the earlier recall.

Ford has recalled some 2022-2023 Mustang cars due to a mistake in the repair process. Technicians didn’t update the power steering control module software as required. This issue arose when Ford realized these cars were marked as fixed but lacked the necessary software update.

The first recall last year affected over 30,000 Mustangs due to steering gear calibration issues. This problem caused steering wheel oscillation during turns and only affected electronic steering systems in that generation of Mustangs.

The initial calibration of the steering gear’s secondary digital torque sensor happened with reversed polarity. Without the necessary software update, potential problems persist, which may result in issues if the primary sensor malfunctions. Ford has not specified the extent of these oscillations but warns that unintended steering assistance could lead to loss of vehicle control, heightening the risk of a crash as stated in their recall notice.

Affected Mustang owners can bring their vehicles to a dealer for free installation of the correct PSCM software. Ford will inform owners about this on March 31. The company has not reported any accidents or injuries linked to this issue yet.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that Ford has had 10 recalls this year, making it a prominent brand for recalls. Last year, Ford ranked third for recalls with 67 affecting 4.8 million cars. CEO Jim Farley aims to address quality issues within the company.
