At the outstation Budget Session in Kokrajhar, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma highlighted that the Justice Biplab Sarma Committee report on corruption in the APSC and Sixth Schedule area development will be key topics during the ongoing 15th session of the Assam Assembly.
During today’s session, the House will discuss developing Sixth Schedule areas for three hours. The ongoing Budget session has adjourned until 2 pm. Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya praised Assam’s progress under the current government in a 30-minute speech highlighting recent achievements.
Charaideo Maidam was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site in July 2024, making it Assam’s third. Assam is now fourth among top global destinations for 2025, as mentioned in the House. The Chief Minister also reviewed the Saralpara Road construction along the Assam-Bhutan border today. This 300-km route from Jamduar to Shikaridanga will enhance security and tourism in the region.
The Chief Minister made a pledge at an election rally to build Saralpara Road to the Bhutan border for connectivity and development. With an estimated budget of Rs 36 crore, the project aims to be done in 18 months. Aligning with broader goals of enhancing border infrastructure and local accessibility, it also supports regional development and boosts tourism. The Chief Minister specifically highlighted the road’s potential to improve connectivity between Kokrajhar and Bhutan and laid emphasis on the importance of completing the project on time. Additionally, the upcoming Sikhna Jwhwlao National Park is expected to further enhance the BTR region.
“With Sikhna Jwhwlao, BTR will now have three national parks, along with Manas and Raimona. The Chief Minister urged BTR residents to safeguard these areas for tourism growth. During the outstation Budget session, PM Modi praised the BJP’s double-engine government for empowering the Bodo community. The NDA, both at the Centre and in Assam, is dedicated to fulfilling Bodo aspirations. Efforts for their upliftment will continue with vigor, as seen during the PM’s visit to Kokrajhar, where he admired the vibrant Bodo culture.”
