Carlos Alcaraz marked a brilliant debut at the ABN AMRO Open in Rotterdam by securing his first indoor title. The top seed triumphed 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 over Alex de Minaur in the ATP 500 final, becoming the inaugural Spanish winner in the tournament’s 52-year tenure.
Alcaraz initially faced a tough challenge against De Minaur, but he ultimately clinched his 17th tour-level title in under two hours. Summing up his experience, he expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming support he received in his debut tournament, describing the week as a success.
Alcaraz made history last year by winning ATP 500 titles on clay, grass, and hard courts. Now, he adds an indoor victory to his record, leading 3-0 against De Minaur in ATP 500 matches. This triumph against De Minaur is his first win since defeating Jannik Sinner in the Beijing final last October.
Despite losing to Alcaraz, De Minaur will reach a career-high of No. 6 in the ATP Rankings on Monday. The Australian, 25, sought his 10th title but was defeated by Alcaraz in the final set. Reflecting on his performance, De Minaur expressed ambition for greater achievements. He remains optimistic, aspiring to clinch a tournament victory soon.
