'Shōgun' creator hints at unexpected Season 2 developments.

FX’s Shōgun is progressing well into its second season with scripts penned by co-creator Justin Marks. Initially a limited series, the show was renewed for two more seasons post its successful debut. Marks stated they’re transitioning from writing to planning production in an interview with Deadline. This Emmy-winning show has earned critical acclaim.

Marks hinted at unexpected plot twists in the upcoming season, revealing that the writers finished all 10 episodes, including the finale, and are planning the shooting process. He expressed excitement for viewers to be surprised by significant ideas from the start of the first episode.

The first season closely followed James Clavell’s novel, focusing on English sailor John Blackthorne and daimyo Lord Toranaga. As there is no second novel, the next season may introduce fresh plots. Marks hinting at future storylines implies more seasons beyond the confirmed third.

Acclaimed actor Sanada returns in season two as Lord Toranaga and a producer, collaborating closely on historical and cultural accuracy with the creative team. Other returning cast members are yet to be disclosed by FX, with further updates anticipated. The upcoming season is anticipated to premiere in late 2026 or early 2027, streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.
