The Indian government allocated ₹6,000 crore for 4G expansion of BSNL and MTNL. Following a partnership, MTNL in Delhi and Mumbai will provide 4G services through BSNL. This collaboration enhances network services and boosts 4G connectivity under a decade-long agreement.
BSNL plans to use an extra ₹6,000 crore for setting up 100,000 4G sites. The total project cost is about ₹19,000 crore. Prior to the DoT’s funding request, the company had already spent close to ₹13,000 crore on the project.
After completing due diligence, the DoT forwarded BSNL’s ₹6,000 crore proposal to the Union Cabinet for approval during a Friday evening Cabinet meeting. Despite believed approval at the meeting, no official announcement was later made in the press conference.
Since 2019, the Indian government has injected ₹3.22 lakh crore into BSNL and MTNL through revival packages, with a recent approval of ₹6,000 crore for their 4G expansion plans further demonstrating continuous support.
This funding will enhance network services and improve 4G connectivity nationwide.
