Gauripur, Dhubri | January 25, 2025: The Generation Awakens, a Guwahati-based NGO, successfully organized an Improved Tool Kits Distribution Programme for 50 artisans specializing in Cane & Bamboo Craft in Gauripur, Dhubri, Assam. This initiative, sponsored by the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), aimed to enhance the craftsmanship and productivity of local artisans by providing them with upgraded tools and technical support.
The event was graced by Shri Prayas Roy, Assistant Manager, DICC, Dhubri, as the Chief Guest, who emphasized the significance of government and NGO-led interventions in uplifting the handicraft sector. Also present were Mr. Saiful Rahman, Technical Expert, DICC, Dhubri, Assam, and Shri Pankaj Yadav, CTO, HSC, Gauripur, Assam, who shared their insights on the technical advancements and market opportunities for artisans.
Empanelled Master Crafts Person Lakshikant Malakar, an expert in Sholapith Craft, and Master Crafts Person Shri Ratan Mani Das, a specialist in Cane & Bamboo Craft, provided hands-on guidance and motivation to the artisans, stressing the need for innovation and quality enhancement in traditional craftsmanship.
Speaking at the occasion, Shri Prayas Roy highlighted the government’s commitment to skill development and market expansion for rural artisans. He encouraged the craftsmen to make the most of such programmes and utilize their skills to tap into national and international markets.
The event served as a vital step towards sustainable development of the Cane & Bamboo handicraft sector in Assam, empowering artisans with better tools, knowledge, and opportunities to improve their livelihoods.
