YouTube will change view counting for Shorts from March 31. Currently, views are based on play duration, but the new method will count views when the video starts or replays, akin to Instagram and TikTok. This change ensures views count, even when scrolling past the Short. The update, shared on YouTube’s support page, enhances creators’ understanding of their content’s reach.
YouTube confirmed that the new view-counting approach won’t impact creators’ earnings or eligibility for the YouTube Partner Program. The original Shorts view metrics will remain accessible through the ‘Engaged Views’ option in YouTube analytics’ Advanced Mode. This tool helps creators track viewer engagement by showing how many viewers continue watching their Shorts.
YouTube confirmed that the view-counting change for Shorts won’t impact creator eligibility for the YouTube Partner Program. To qualify, creators must meet minimum requirements of 1,000 subscribers, 4,000 public watch hours in the past year, or 10 million valid Shorts views in the last 90 days. The new method improves the tracking of video views on various platforms, offering better clarity.
YouTube has upgraded its ‘Ask Music’ playlists alongside a view-counting update. Users can now edit the AI-curated playlists and provide additional suggestions. This enhancement grants users greater control over their music experience on the platform, as reported by Android Authority.
