YouTube Premium now allows subscribers to watch videos at four times the normal speed, enabling quick skimming through content like introductions and sponsored segments. This feature is available on Android and iOS until February 26 and can be activated through the YouTube experiments page.
To enable 4x playback, users must sign in with their Premium account, navigate to the “Faster Speeds” experiment, and select “Try it out.” If a disable option appears, the feature is active, though it may take up to an hour to show in the YouTube app.
YouTube has a special program for Premium subscribers, who are users that pay for a subscription. This program lets them try new features before everyone else can. This way, YouTube can get helpful feedback from these users to make the features better or decide not to use them at all based on what people think.
On January 22, YouTube shared some exciting new features they were going to test out. These included a “Jump Ahead” button for watching videos on the computer, better quality sound for phones, and special tools just for iPhones, like “Shorts Picture-in-Picture” and “Shorts Smart Downloads.” Most of these new features were added to the main page right away, except for faster playback speeds, which just showed up.
