The BJP is poised to break its 27-year hiatus from power in Delhi as Election Commission trends indicate significant gains. With six seats secured and leading in 42 of 70, AAP’s chances for a third term look doubtful, in contrast to Congress facing another zero-seat outcome.
With victory almost assured, the BJP must decide on their choice for chief minister, as stated by Delhi BJP chief Virendraa Sachdeva, who mentioned that the central leadership will finalize the decision. During the campaign, AAP criticized the BJP for not revealing their CM candidate, to which Sachdeva responded that the central leadership would make that choice.
Several potential candidates for the CM post include Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma, who defeated AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal, and Vijender Gupta, a senior BJP leader. Ramesh Bidhuri was declared by AAP as BJP’s CM face during campaigns, but BJP has not confirmed this.
Majinder Singh Sirsa and Dushyant Gautam are potential candidates from Rajouri Garden and Karol Bagh. Harish Khurana of Moti Nagar and Kailash Gahlot from Bijwasan are also in consideration. Kapil Mishra from Karawal Nagar and Arvinder Singh Lovely from Gandhi Nagar are also being discussed.
