Virat Kohli’s participation in the upcoming Test series against England remains uncertain as he’s still to confirm his availability due to his desire to retire from Test cricket. Despite the BCCI’s request to reconsider, Kohli stands firm on his decision, especially after Rohit Sharma’s retirement as per Times of India.
The BCCI and selection committee are trying hard to persuade Kohli to tour England, given India’s inexperienced middle-order for the series. Kohli informed selectors two weeks ago of his wish to quit Tests, but they continue to encourage him for the England tour, though he remains steadfast in his decision.
Despite his prior Test success, Kohli has recently struggled. Questions about his place arose after repeated dismissals in Australia. However, selectors want him in India’s squad for England to provide experience. Shubman Gill is a potential captain, while Shreyas Iyer or Karun Nair could fill Kohli’s No. 4 spot if needed.
The selection committee is discussing Mohammed Shami’s Test cricket future due to form and fitness concerns. As of now, Shami isn’t a certain pick, having returned to international cricket recently but struggling with form. Additionally, Bumrah’s workload uncertainties contribute to the selectors only expecting him to play in two or three Tests during the upcoming tour.
