Vicky Kaushal's preparation for his most challenging role in 'Chhaava'.

Busy promoting his upcoming film Chhaava, Vicky Kaushal called his role the “toughest” yet as he embodies the valiant Maratha warrior Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. Director Laxman Utekar insisted on an authentic warrior look before filming. The movie is set for release on February 14.

Kaushal bulked up 25kg of muscle in seven months for the role. He also mastered horse riding, sword training, and combat acting as required by Laxman sir, who insisted on an authentic appearance, rejecting VFX until satisfied with Kaushal’s transformation.

Kaushal not only bulked up but also grew his hair and beard for the film. Prior to shooting, he invested time in transforming his appearance. The filming process did not involve shortcuts and featured 2K junior artists along with 500 top Indian stuntmen on set.

In Chhaava, Akshaye Khanna portrays Aurangzeb, impressing Kaushal with his stunning transformation for the role. Kaushal expressed total surprise upon viewing photos of Khanna’s character. Witnessing Khanna on set in full attire left Kaushal speechless. Rashmika Mandanna co-stars as Maharani Yesubai, Sambhaji Maharaj’s wife. Originally set for a December release, the historical drama was rescheduled to avoid a clash with Pushpa 2.
