Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray and Shiv Sena (UBT) head Uddhav Thackeray were recently spotted together at a wedding in Mumbai, fueling speculation of a potential reconciliation between the cousins. This marks their third public appearance within three months, at Mahendra Kalyankar’s son’s wedding in Andheri.
Speculation abounds over a potential MNS-Sena (UBT) reconciliation as the Thackeray cousins display unity. The Maharashtra civic body elections, notably the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation polls, loom, although no dates are set. Raj Thackeray’s split from Shiv Sena in 2005 led to MNS’ formation in 2006, sparking a long-standing feud with Uddhav.
In last year’s Maharashtra assembly elections, Sena (UBT) won 20 seats, while MNS didn’t win any. Recent developments suggest improving relations despite past differences. The cousins met at Kalyankar’s son’s wedding following two other public appearances. Raj mingled with Rashmi Thackeray and family at Shounak Patankar’s wedding reception at Taj Land’s End on December 15, 2024.
Political observers suggest that infighting within ruling Mahayuti and opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi alliances is fueling a potential reconciliation. Priorly, Raj Thackeray criticized Uddhav over rifts in Shiv Sena. Raj expressed on a Marathi channel that his departure from Shiv Sena stemmed from seeking respect but facing insult and humiliation.
