Uber has introduced ‘Uber for Teens’ in India for youths aged 13-17, starting in Bengaluru, Delhi NCR, and Mumbai. Expansion to 35 more cities such as Ahmedabad, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Pune is planned in the coming weeks.
Parents and guardians use the ‘Uber for Teens’ service to set up accounts for their wards. This enables teens to request rides on their devices while offering features such as live trip tracking and optional audio recording. Guardians can also book rides, setting monthly trip limits for control.
Guardians in India must add a card for the ‘Uber for Teens’ service. This allows inviting a teen to the family profile. Once cards are on the account, both adults and teens can book rides with any payment option, including cash. According to Uber’s support page, teens can also bring riders aged 13-17 on their trips.
Uber for Teens was introduced in India two years after its debut in the US and Canada. This launch is part of Uber’s strategy to compete with local rivals Ola, Rapido, Namma Yatri, and BluSmart, aiming to strengthen its presence amidst Q4 2021 results showing the service operating in around 50 countries worldwide.
