United States President Donald Trump condemned Russia for a deadly airstrike on Kyiv and publicly urged Russian President Vladimir Putin to halt the attacks by saying, “Vladimir, STOP!” Trump’s criticism coincides with his intensified peace negotiations for Ukraine, which include controversial terms like recognizing Russia’s annexation of Crimea, a condition firmly opposed by Ukrainian President Zelenskyy.
Trump aims to secure a ceasefire deal by his 100th day in office, emphasizing his self-imposed deadline. He previously pledged to end the war on his first day in power. The President is pushing Putin to halt the conflict and views Moscow refraining from seizing the entire country as a significant compromise.
The deadly airstrike in Kyiv resulted in the highest casualties this year, including two children killed and over 90 wounded. The attack, carried out on Thursday, involved drones, ballistic missiles, and guided missiles striking the Ukrainian capital. Ukraine’s state emergency service reported Russia’s massive assault via Telegram. President Zelenskyy noted that as Ukrainian forces focused on defending against aerial attacks, the Russians escalated their ground assaults.
On Wednesday, Trump criticized Zelenskyy for refusing to endorse a US “peace plan” involving Crimea and other Ukrainian territories going to Russia, accusing him of prolonging the conflict. Bloomberg reported the US will oppose Russia’s request to “demilitarize” Ukraine in a peace deal. Special envoy Steve Witkoff plans to demand Kyiv maintains its army and defense industry in his upcoming meeting with Putin.
