Trump announces 'total reset' in US-China trade relations after Geneva talks.

US President Trump declared a “total reset” of US-China trade relations after discussions in Geneva to ease tariff tensions. Secretary Bessent and Trade Representative Greer met with Chinese Vice Premier Lifeng to address tariff disputes.

Trump announced the positive outcome of the Geneva talks on Truth Social, disclosing a successful meeting with China in Switzerland where various important matters were discussed and agreed upon. The President emphasized that the talks resulted in a friendly yet constructive total reset being negotiated.

Trump’s tariff actions caused global market upheaval, leading to a trade war between the US and China. Tariffs hit 145% and rose above 245% on certain Chinese goods, with China retaliating with 125% tariffs on US products. Recently, Trump suggested scaling back, proposing an 80% tariff on China as a potential compromise.

US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick stated to Fox News on Friday that Trump seeks to ease tensions with China. Although Trump hinted at lowering tariffs, press secretary Karoline Leavitt noted that the US would not do so unilaterally. She highlighted that China must make concessions for any tariff reductions.
