New Delhi – Union Minister Giriraj Singh has stirred controversy by demanding strict action, including the death penalty, for those involved in the Tirupati laddus row. The row erupted after allegations made by the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) suggested irregularities in the preparation and distribution of the famous Tirupati temple laddus, which are considered sacred by millions of devotees.
Addressing the media, Singh expressed his outrage over the issue, stating, “The people responsible for tarnishing the sanctity of these sacred offerings should be hanged. This is not just an issue of food but of faith, and those who play with the beliefs of millions must face the strictest punishment.”
The TDP had earlier raised concerns over the quality and handling of the laddus distributed at the famous Tirumala Venkateswara Temple. They claimed that the laddus were not being prepared according to traditional standards, and certain suppliers might be involved in corrupt practices. These allegations have caused a public outcry, with devotees questioning the transparency of the temple’s management.
Giriraj Singh also called for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the matter. “A thorough investigation by the CBI is necessary to uncover the truth behind these claims. We cannot allow any compromise on religious sentiments or trust,” he said.
The TDP’s allegations have sparked widespread debate, with political leaders and religious groups weighing in. Many devotees are upset by the idea that the sanctity of the laddus, which are given as prasad (holy offerings) to worshippers, could be compromised. Some demand strict government oversight to prevent future issues.
While temple authorities have yet to respond directly to Singh’s remarks, they have assured the public that an internal investigation is ongoing and all necessary steps will be taken to maintain the laddus’ quality and sanctity.
The row has now turned into a significant political issue, with pressure mounting on the authorities to address the allegations swiftly and transparently.
