Today Assam Chief Minister stated that Compensation shall be provided to the family of Kaliabor who victim in Tiger attack while several welfare projects dedicating to the people of Lakhimpur district. He assured that he will personally look into the matter. The victim have been identified as Basudev Karmakar which discovered on Sunday morning at Silghat-Sonari Village area.
It has been recovered of Basudev’s body only weighs 1.5 kilos,” as stated by the local people, underscoring the gruesome nature of the attack.
It is also stated by the protester / tea garden worker and local social organisations to the higher authority for taking immediate action in this regard for safety of villagers otherwise they will block national highway 37 tomorrow if authority fail to take suitable steps. For more than three years, the area has struggled with tiger-related dread, especially in places like Sonari Village, Kamakhya Village, Kaliabor Tea Gardens, and Sonari Tea Gardens. Despite repeated appeals from the Assam Tea Workers’ Union and student organisations, residents allege that the Forest Department has not taken suitable steps to resolved the issue.
