Thala MS Dhoni aims for milestones in IPL 2025.

As the 18th IPL season approaches, the focus turns to the legendary MS Dhoni, the former CSK skipper, known for his exceptional performances both as a batsman and wicketkeeper. Retained for ₹4 crore, Dhoni has played a key role in CSK’s five IPL victories and looks to enhance his legacy in what may be his final IPL campaign.

Despite Dhoni moving down the batting order, he is set to surpass Suresh Raina in IPL runs for CSK. Dhoni has scored 4,669 runs in 234 games at an average of 40.25, with a strike rate of 139.28 and 22 half-centuries. He needs just 19 more runs to surpass Raina’s total of 4,687 runs for CSK.

Dhoni’s batting in matches has been limited to 4-5 balls, but he is relied upon during batting collapses for the Super Kings. Notably, he could break the record as the oldest player to score a half-century in an IPL game. Currently held by Adam Gilchrist at 41 years and 181 days, this feat was achieved in 2013 against Royal Challengers Bangalore, as reported by ESPNcricinfo.

Dhoni, a cricket legend, boasts 190 dismissals in 264 matches as a wicket-keeper. He aims to hit the 200 dismissal mark in the upcoming season, potentially setting a new record. Additionally, he is close to achieving a milestone of 150 IPL catches.

Dhoni achieved 5,243 runs at 39.12 in his IPL career, aiming to reach 5,500 runs in the upcoming season. He is closing in on his 400th T20 match, having played 391 games. Only 68 more runs are needed for him to hit 7,500 runs in T20 cricket. Dhoni is poised to reach 100 unbeaten innings in the IPL, currently at 95.
