Success Story of Miss Shipali Sharma
Embroidery Artisan (Artisan ID: NRUPC657622)
HSC Udhampur, Jammu & Kashmir
Miss Shipali Sharma, a dedicated and skilled embroidery artisan from Kah Falata, District Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir, has emerged as an inspiring example of empowerment and entrepreneurship through sustained support from various handicraft development initiatives.
She began her journey at a State Government-run embroidery centre, where she acquired foundational skills in traditional embroidery techniques. Driven by a strong determination to refine her expertise, she pursued and successfully completed a Diploma in Embroidery Craft from ITI, which strengthened her technical proficiency and professional confidence.
Entrepreneurial Growth & Market Exposure
Shipali’s craftsmanship gained wider recognition through her participation at Dilli Haat, where her products attracted appreciation from diverse buyers. Building upon this exposure, she established her own shop with GST registration and expanded her reach through Instagram and other e-commerce platforms. Through these efforts, she has successfully generated income exceeding ₹1,00,000, demonstrating the viability of handicrafts as a sustainable livelihood.
Currently, she is actively participating in Craft Development and Awareness Programmes (CDAPs) organized by HSC, Udhampur, and has also been nominated for participation in the India International Trade Fair (IITF), New Delhi — a prestigious platform for national-level exposure.
Role under SAMARTH Scheme
From 16 August 2023 to 20 October 2023, Shipali served under the SAMARTH Scheme as both a Trainer and Computer Operator. In this capacity, she trained numerous women artisans, equipping them with embroidery skills and motivating them toward self-employment and financial independence.
Her leadership qualities and dedication earned her nomination as a “Shilp Didi” by the Handicraft Service Centre (HSC), Udhampur — a recognition awarded to women artisans who mentor and inspire others in the handicraft sector.
During 2024–25, she actively participated in four CDAPs, further enhancing her experience, exposure, and professional growth.
Contribution to Design Development
Prior to the commencement of the Design Project, a technical session was conducted in the presence of the Designer and other engaged experts. During interactive discussions, the concepts and methodology for execution were finalized. Shipali actively contributed suggestions during these deliberations, and the final designs were approved after mutual consultation among artisans and designers.

Miss Shipali Sharma’s transformation from a village artisan to a recognized entrepreneur has been made possible through continuous support from the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles.
