Spotlight on Young Stars: Modern English School's 11th Inter-School Competition Delivers Theatrical Magic

November 13, 2024, Guwahati — The 11th edition of Modern English School Kahilipara’s Inter-School Drama Competition set the stage ablaze with the theme of ‘Co-Existence,’ celebrating the creativity, passion, and dramatic talents of young performers from across the city. Held on November 12, 2024, at the Pragjyoti ITA Centre for Performing Arts, Machkhowa, the event brought together nine schools that delivered powerful performances, leaving the audience and judges spellbound. This year’s competition saw participation from across the state, namely: Kaziranga English Academy, Gorchuk, Army Public School, Narangi, Cotton Collegiate Higher Secondary School, Panbazaar, Modern English School, Kahilipara, Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya, Nalbari, Pub Guwahati High School, Jyotinagar, Dehli Public School, Jorhat, Gurukul Grammar Senior Secondary School, Geetanagar, Green Valley Public School, Jalukbari.

The event was graced by distinguished personalities from film and theatre, with Mrs. Runu Devi as the Chief Guest. The esteemed panel of judges included celebrated actors Mr. Jayanta Kumar Deka, Mr. Nabajyoti Bora, and Mrs. Pranami Bora, who had the challenging task of evaluating the talent on display.

A Stage for Creative Expression- The competition aimed to inspire young minds by providing a platform to express their thoughts and emotions through the art of drama. With a focus on teamwork, self-expression, and storytelling, the participants captivated the audience with a diverse array of performances that explored the theme of co-existence in profound and imaginative ways.

And the Awards Go To…After intense deliberation, the panel of judges announced the winners:
• Best Drama Team: Modern English School, Kahilipara (Play name- Morubhumi Ahe Lahe Lahe- Script by Pratul Sharma and Directed by Rajib Kro )
• 1st Runner-up Team: Gurukul Grammar Senior Secondary School, Geetanagar (Play Name- The Laptop)
• 2nd Runner-up Team: Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya, Nalbari (Play Name- My Choice, My Life)
• Best Actor (Male): Abhigyan Basumatary, Class 9, Modern English School, Kahilipara
• Best Actor (Female): Ashramika, Class 8, Gurukul Grammar Senior Secondary School, Geetanagar
In addition, special accolades were awarded for standout individual contributions:
• Best Director: Rajib Kro, Modern English School, Kahilipara, (Play Name- Morubhumi Ahe Lahe Lahe)
• Best Scriptwriter: Madhumoy Singh and Manastuti Borah, Class 11, Gurukul Grammar Senior Secondary School, Geetanagar (Play Name- The Laptop)
• Best Supporting Actor (Male): Anuran Gogoi, Class 11, Dehli Public School, Jorhat
• Best Supporting Actor (Female): Himanisha Baishya, Class 11, Gurukul Grammar Senior Secondary School, Geetanagar
• Best Comic Actor: Tanvir Alam, Class 7, Green Valley Public School, Jalukbari
• Jury Awards:

o Jerifa Wahid, Class 8, Kaziranga English Academy, Gorchuk

Mrs. Jonali Das, Principal of Modern English School, shared her pride in the event’s success, stating: “The 11th Inter-School Drama Competition was a resounding success, showcasing the unwavering dedication of our young actors. Their enthusiasm for the dramatic arts is truly inspiring. This event highlights the power of theatre as a medium, and these students have proven they are the future torchbearers of the performing arts.”

Recently, Modern English School also won first place at the state-level Science Drama Competition, which was held at the Regional Science Centre in Khanapara, Guwahati. Mr Rajib Kro, the drama teacher of Modern English School, won the best director award, and Abhigyan Basumatary of class 9 won the best actor award on the occasion.

Modern English School, Kahilipara remains committed to fostering the arts, continuing its tradition of nurturing talent, and providing young performers a stage to shine for years.
